BIBF Annual Dinner – 24th February 2017

We had our seventh Annual Dinner on 24th February 2017 at Goosedale Banqueting Centre. This annual event continues to grow in popularity and we had over 300 guests from a whole range of businesses as well as families and friends of the core members. We were proud to have The Right Honourable Sir Vince Cable as our Chief Guest.

Guests were treated to some wonderful live singing whilst enjoying their dinner, first by an invited Jazz singer and then by Gaurika Hayer who gave us a preview of her new single which was about to be released world-wide. Gaurika is a previous winner of BIBF’s Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award.

The Chairman Bob Bhabra then gave his reflections of his tenure in the BIBF Chair since the Forum’s inception in 2008. He said that it has been an honour and a privilege to serve as chairman and see BIBF made such good progress. He highlighted a few examples of what the members had been involved with:

  • Buying and selling of businesses
  • Setting up new operations in the UK as well as countries such as India, China and the United States
  • Representing the British Indian perspective in local economic development projects such as Invest in Nottingham
  • Proactively getting involved in the Civic life but pushing it to new boundaries – we had Jas Bilkhu a Sikh High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire who decided that his investiture would take place in a Sikh temple
  • Sam Sangha received his OBE in the Queen’s Honours list
  • Bob said that he was pleased to now be passing on the mantle of chairman to the incoming Chairman Jas Bilkhu.

Our chief guest The Right Honourable Sir Vince Cable then presented his trade-mark open and frank views on current issues such as Brexit.

As per our previous Annual Dinners, there was a lot of networking at the end and a positive buzz in the room. We look forward to our Annual Dinner of 2018!

Ladies and gentlemen, you may recall that, two years ago, a young lady won our Young Entrepreneur of the Year award. Her name was – and still is – Gaurika Hayer. She has now released a record and, I am pleased to say that she is now going to play that live for us.
